Candidates for the 35th District House, Position 1

Rep. Dan Griffey, an Allyn Republican who has held the 35th District, Position 1 seat for four terms, is seeking a fifth term in the Nov. 8 elections. He is being challenged by Democrat James DeHart, an employee of Mason County government.

The Kitsap Sun asked the candidates to answer seven questions. Their answers follow:

Q: Inflation is a challenge for many. What should the Legislature do to help those struggling with the rising cost of gas and food?

A: The legislature should consider a temporary suspension of the gas tax and potentially lowering the sales tax rate as a way offset the effects of inflation.

Q: Police reform legislation raised the barrier for law enforcement to engage in vehicle chases of those suspected of a crime. Do you support the legislation as is, or do you think it should be changed?
