WRGHSTOWN >> The Wrightstown Farmers Market opens its regular market season on May 7 and runs Saturdays through November 19 (except August 20) rain or shine, from 9 am to 12 pm The Market is happy to announce their location will remain at the Middletown Grange Fairgrounds, 576 Penns Park Road, Newtown 18940. Please note: There will not be a market on August 20 due to the Middletown Grange Fair.
Opening day activities will include a free “Herb Pot for Mom” decoration station, a flower giveaway, folk music from the Goose Creek Pioneers, hot ready-to-eat food and drinks from Bonjour Creperie Food Truck and Macungie Mountain Herb Farm.
The Market this season features products grown by local farms and hosts 30 to 35 vendors each week. On opening day you will find asparagus, broccoli rabe, assorted kale varieties, radishes, and spinach, along with pasture-raised beef, pork, chicken and eggs, fresh hearth baked breads, custards and other sweets, dairy products, raw local honey, kombucha, mushrooms, locally roasted coffee, fresh and frozen crepes, fresh soups, pickles, prepared foods to go, freshly made lemonade, handmade pottery, soaps and lotions, dog treats, nut butters, olive oil, gorgeous flower bouquets, and so much more.
There are many exciting happenings to enjoy at the Market this coming season, including the return of “What’s in Season” monthly cooking demos highlighting seasonal products from our local growers and producers. The Market Committee will host several local chef demonstrations throughout the season, such as Chef Luke Smithson of Jamie Hollander Catering on July 2nd and celebrity Chef Christina Pirello on August 9th.
The Market will also be bringing back various children’s activities this season. Look forward to a live pop-up Monarch Butterfly tent on July 2nd where kids can get up close and personal with the Monarchs during feeding time. Plans are in the works for many other crafty days and lots of fun activities throughout the season.
Also, the annual Tomato Tasting Day in August, as well as the much-loved annual Pie Tasting Contest in early October, are very much anticipated.
According to Market Manager Cheryl Gilmore, “the Penn State Master Gardeners have recently moved their headquarters to the Middletown Grange and plan to table at the Market most Saturdays. They will be teaching fun facts about plants, gardening and agriculture for both kids and adults.”
“We are looking forward to bringing back some of the lively fun that was so prevalent at our Market before the pandemic. Another new and exciting feature this season is the launch of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). We will be accepting SNAP EBT benefits in order to help those eligible in our community to access an increase in local food. Thanks to the generosity of our parent organization, the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, we will be offering a $2 match for every $5 spent through SNAP,” said Gilmore.
